Funds Raised in “Queso for Heroes” Veterans Day Promotion Will Enable Honor Flight to Transport More Veterans to Washington, D.C. to Visit Memorials

LUBBOCK, Texas, Dec. 17, 2020 — Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant, famous for its authentic, made-from-scratch Mexican cuisine, raised $7,000 for the Honor Flight Network in November to celebrate Veterans Day. Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant, famous for its authentic, made-from-scratch Mexican cuisine, continued its partnership with the Honor Flight Network in celebration of Veterans Day. In November, $7,000 was raised for Honor Flight to assist in transporting American veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit memorials of those who served and sacrificed.”

Abuelo’s held its “Queso for Heroes” promotion from Nov. 7 to Nov. 11 to honor Veterans Day, donating $1 to Honor Flight for each sale of its popular Chile con Queso appetizer. The restaurant chain also paid tribute to veterans and active servicemembers who visited Abuelo’s by providing a free entrée from a special Veterans Day menu at select locations.

“On behalf of Honor Flight, I’d like to thank all of the Abuelo’s team members who made this fundraiser such a success,” said Meredith Rosenbeck, CEO of Honor Flight. “Many veterans would like the opportunity to visit the nation’s capital, see their memorial and share their stories, but some lack the means to do so. With the help of partners like Abuelo’s, we’re able to fulfill their wish.”

Last year, Honor Flight flew more than 23,000 veterans to Washington, D.C. for an all-expenses paid visit that many would not have been able to make otherwise. Honor Flight currently arranges trips for veterans who served during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The organization also serves terminally ill veterans from any era of service. Since 2005, the Honor Flight Network has transported nearly a quarter of a million veterans to visit memorials in the capital.

“Supporting our community is deeply engrained in our culture at Abuelo’s, so we were pleased to work with Honor Flight again this year to pay tribute to our military heroes,” said Abuelo’s President Robert Lin. “I am grateful to the guests who visited our restaurants during the promotion and made the fundraiser successful, and I am thankful for the dedication of the Abuelo’s team, who made it possible.”

On trips arranged by the nationwide Honor Flight Network, veterans get a chance to share stories of their sacrifice and service, reunite with fellow comrades and pay tribute to those lost. The organization also plans to expand its service to honor veterans from more recent conflicts. Learn more at www.honorflight.org.

To Our Valued Guests,

At Abuelo’s, our primary focus is on providing an excellent customer experience, one component of which is ensuring guest and team member safety as a top priority. Each of our restaurants are managed by ServSafe certified managers and follow strict safety and quality assurance standards. Like many, we are following the guidance of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local public health officials. In doing so, we have taken the following preventative steps for our guests and team members:

  • Strongly reinforcing hand washing and sanitation procedures.
  • Reinforcing strict guidelines set forth by the health department – including personal hygiene, cleaning and sanitation, as well as cleaning standards for washing, rinsing and sanitizing surfaces including sinks, tables, equipment, utensils, thermometers and public areas that include tables and contact areas in the front of the house.
  • Continuing to reinforce our strict operating procedures including our long-standing policy of not letting employees work while sick.
  • Increasing the frequency of our daily cleaning efforts.
  • Educating our team members on the COVID-19 threat and preventative measures and guidelines outlined by the CDC.

Our food supply chain is stable and safe and is not presently impacted by this outbreak.

If  you and your family do not feel up to dining in at your local Abuelo’s, we encourage you to take full advantage of the various ways we can continue to serve you through our dining-out options such as to-go service and delivery.

Abuelo’s to Celebrate National Margarita Day with Fundraiser to Help End Childhood Hunger

For Every Premium Margarita Sold on February 22, Abuelo’s Will Donate $2 to No Kid Hungry

PLANO, Texas — February 13, 2019 – Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant, famous for its authentic, made-from-scratch Mexican cuisine, announced today that the restaurant chain will celebrate National Margarita Day on February 22 with a fundraiser to help end childhood hunger. For each Premium Margarita sold at any of its locations, Abuelo’s will donate $2 to No Kid Hungry, a national campaign working to end childhood hunger in America.

Each Abuelo’s guest who purchases a premium hand-crafted margarita at Abuelo’s on National Margarita Day will receive a No Kid Hungry sticker to show support for the cause, which provides the one in seven children living with hunger with the nutritious meals they need. Beverages included in the National Margarita Day fundraiser for No Kid Hungry include the popular El Jefe Margarita, Platinum Hand-Shaken Margarita, Skinny Margarita and Cerveza Rita.

“Giving back to our communities is part of our DNA at Abuelo’s, and we partner with programs that benefit children, education and our military nationwide,” said Bob Lin, President of Abuelo’s. “We’ve worked with No Kid Hungry for several years, most recently to celebrate Abuelo’s 30th anniversary, when we raised $12,000 dollars to fight childhood hunger. We’re proud to work with No Kid Hungry again because children shouldn’t have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.”

Despite the abundance of food in America, too many children still live with hunger. No Kid Hungry addresses this problem through effective food programs such as school breakfast, which ensures that children don’t start the day on an empty stomach, and summer meal programs that provide kids with nutritious meals when school is out of session. Abuelo’s donated $1 to Honor Flight for each sale of its popular Chile con Queso appetizer from Thursday, Nov. 7 to Monday, Nov. 11, in every restaurant location.
